According to vision and objective of India’s Semiconductor Mission, today MoU is one step towards building international collaborations and partnership in the field of the semiconductor supply chain and will also give an edge to both countries over China's quest for acquiring dominant position in AI Cold War.

Chandigarh (ABC Live): India and United States signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the semiconductor supply chain and 'Innovation Partnership today in New Delhi.

The MoU was signed by US Secretary of Commerce Gina M. Raimondo and Union Commerce & Industry minister Piyush Goyal during the India-USA Commercial Dialogue in Delhi.

With today MoU both countries started to develop a collaborative mechanism for semiconductor supply chain compatible with United States the CHIPS and Science Act and India’s Semiconductor Mission.

Know About Aim of the CHIPS and Science Act

The CHIPS and Science Act is a U.S. federal statute enacted by the 117th United States Congress and signed into law by President Joe Biden on August 9, 2022.

Act constitutes an industrial policy initiative which takes place against the background of a perceived AI Cold War between the US and China, as artificial intelligence technology relies on semiconductors.

Know about Vision & Objectives of India’s Semiconductor Mission

The vision of ISM is to build a vibrant semiconductor and display design and innovation ecosystem to enable India’s emergence as a global hub for electronics manufacturing and design in a more structured, focused, and comprehensive manner through various mechanisms including: -

Formulation of a comprehensive long-term strategy for developing semiconductors & display manufacturing facilities and semiconductor design ecosystem in the country in consultation with Government ministries / departments / agencies, industry, and academia.

Facilitation in the adoption of trusted electronics through secure semiconductors and display supply chain, including raw materials, specialty chemicals, gases, and manufacturing equipment.

Enabling a multi-fold growth of Indian semiconductor design industry by providing requisite support in the form of Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools, foundry services and other suitable mechanisms for early-stage start-ups.

Promoting indigenous Intellectual Property (IP) generation and encourage, enable and incentivize Transfer of Technologies (ToT).

Enabling collaborations and partnership programs with national and international agencies, industries and institutions for catalysing collaborative research, commercialization and skill development.

According to vision and objective of India’s Semiconductor Mission, today MoU is one step towards building international collaborations and partnership in the field of the semiconductor supply chain and will also give an edge to both countries over China's quest for acquiring dominant position in AI Cold War.
